Description
The basic system has five component; the drive motor assembly, the idler pulley assemblies, the drive belt, stakes (not included), and a deep cycle 12 volt battery (not included).
The system weighs approximately 50 lbs. depending on the number of idler assemblies ordered.
Drive Motor
The drive motor us an industrial grade gear motor. It is heavy duty and has the horsepower to propel more than three dozen decoys. The maximum amp rating is in the 14 amp range so the system is very easy on batteries. A good quality deep cycle battery that is fully charged will last all day.
Idler Pulley Assemblies
The idler pulley assemblies support the drive belt. The basic system comes with two idler assemblies. Additional idlers are available as an option. They fold up for easy transporting.
Drive Belt
The drive belt is elastic and is a key component of the system. The standard belt is available in two lengths: 100 feet and 200 feet. These belts will stretch to about twice that length when properly set up, but this is not intended to imply that it’s necessary to stretch the belt that tight to work good. It has to be tight enough to make the belt travel around without slipping in the drive pulley.
It is exceptionally strong and can be quickly repaired in the field with the right adhesive.
Setup is easy with the classic belt. It’s no different than stretching a big rubber band around the idlers, and placing it in one of the grooves on the drive assembly. If you don’t like the way it looks, it’s simply a matter of moving one or more of the idlers to a new location. The belt can have a section removed to fit a small hole, or more can be added to increase the length. Additional idlers can be added to provide more setup variations.
It is also practical to cut the belt to route it in and out of timber or around brush for a really good looking spread.
Stakes
The drive motor assembly and idler assemblies are designed to be mounted on metal tee posts used for fencing. They are readily available at farm supply stores and come in various lengths to suit your particular situation.
Battery
A good quality deep cycle 12 volt battery will be needed. With a full charge we have run the system all night to keep the water from freezing, but you’ll need to replace it with another charged battery in the morning if you plan to hunt.
Placement
The system works best and is easiest to set in water that can be waded and is relatively clear of vegetation. It is a good idea to prepare your place before flooding if possible. It takes about thirty minutes to setup after you become familiar with the process, and it can be taken down in about half the time.
The Duck Thang is the only waterfowl motion decoy system currently on the market capable if giving a decoy spread the live appearance of many live burds swimming around.
Duck Thang is made in the USA and is heavy duty and reliable. It will provide years of service with minimal maintenance.
